ITIA wants outright ban on part worn tyres
The Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) is calling an outright ban on the sale and fitment of part worn tyres.
The ITIA is poised to make a submission to the Road Safety Authority on the issue of part worn tyres.
Writing in the ITIA Yearbook & Diary 2014, which will be circulated to members in early December, ITIA President Kevin Farrell says: “We are holding firm to our belief that there is no place in our industry for second hand or part worn tyres.”
He continues: “We are calling for waste tyres being sold and fitted onto motor vehicles to be banned. Ireland was the first country to ban smoking. They said it couldn’t be done. They said it wouldn’t be enforced. It did work and we were the shinning light in Europe for other countries to follow our model. It’s time for Ireland to lead the way again.”
