Car Servicing
Full Service
Car servicing is the most essential aspect of good car maintenance. By identifying issues in the car as part of a full car service, you can avoid potential or unexpected breakdowns. You should have your car serviced every 12 to 15 months, to ensure that all of the necessary operational aspects of the engine, such as oil, engine fluids and filters, are replaced. A full service also consists of an oil and filter change. But also includes a replacement air filter element and spark plugs (petrol) or fuel filter (diesel).

Timing Belt
In the internal combustion engine, the timing belt/timing chain plays an integral role by connecting the crankshaft to the camshaft(s), which in turn controls the opening and closing of the engine's valves. A four-stroke engine requires that the valves open and close once every other revolution of the crankshaft. The timing belt/timing chain does this. In some engine designs, the timing belt may also be used to drive other engine components such as the water pump and oil pump (internal combustion engine). Best practice is that you replace the water pump during a timing belt job even if there is nothing wrong with it. This is because 90% of the labour to change the water pump has already been done with the timing belt job and it is considered good insurance to replace the pump too, at this time. It is usually recommended to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles/96,000 km. It is Tyre and Service Superstore's policy to replace the full timing belt kit including tensioners and pulleys.

Clutches
Standard clutch assembly comprises of several different parts that fit together and assist in helping you to change gear and pull away smoothly. These are the clutch cover, clutch plate, pressure plate, clutch fork, clutch cable or hydraulic system and bearing. There is one other vital component called the flywheel that sits next to the engine and this helps keep the clutch and engine spinning at the same time. While driving with your foot off the pedal, springs force the pressure plate to push the clutch plate against the flywheel. Because there is a high level of friction between the clutch plate and flywheel this keeps the engine and clutch turning over at the same speed. When you press the clutch down the clutch cable or hydraulic system pushes the clutch fork forward which in turn presses the bearing onto the diaphragm in the clutch cover. The diaphragm then pulls the pressure plate away from the clutch plate which disengages the clutch from the flywheel and engine allowing you to change gear.
